Jag mejlade med Russel om den maskinen innan jag beställde, klistrar in vår korrespondans, den kanske kan vara till hjälp:
Hello, I want an overlocker with free-arm but I can´t decide whether to buy an SMD 854 or a Janome 744D. When reading about them on your site they appear equal in functions. Hope you can help me to sort things out.
Best wishes from Jona
Hello Jona,
The features of both models are similar but the quality is very different.
The SMD854 is ideal for occasional use on lightweight fabrics where as the Janome 744D is recommended to schools, colleges and curtain workshops.
I would recommend the Janome 744D or if gbp249.00 is just over budget, then the Brother overlockers also have the free arm and another to consider.
However, if gbp249.00 is within budget, then the 744D would be my selection.
Kind regards,
Russell
Thank you for your answer!
Is it Brother 3034D that you suggest? I agree that also that machine appear to have similar functions. Is it a quality differ there as well or why the differense in price?

Hello Jona,
The quality of the Brother 1034D and 3034D models is somewhere between the SMD and the Janome 744D. They are more reliable than the SMD when sewing more extreme fabrics and they have a stronger cutting mechanism. Both models are lighter than the Janome 744D but the Janome will cope better with heavier fabrics and is more robust and therefore more expensive.
The Janome will also sew 2, 3 and 4 thread and is easier to use, for example, having a pre tensioner for rolled hems.
Both models include an instructional DVD.
Regards,
Russell
